CANTORION CREIGIAU is a mixed choir of 70 voices which has been singing for 37 years. The choir, which sings in Welsh and English, performs concerts throughout Wales and the other nations of Britain and has toured in Brittany, Austria, Italy and Ireland.
Cantorion Creigiau was formed in 1970, mainly by people from the village of Creigiau, seven miles north-west of Cardiff, following a very successful evening of carol singing in support of a local children's foster home. Today, the choir gives concerts in venues ranging from village halls to churches, cathedrals and concert halls. The voices of Cantorion Creigiau have been heard a number of times at St David's Hall in Cardiff, including the very first concert to be staged there. The choir is proud to continue its support for charitable causes, and over the years its concerts have raised more than £175,000. The choir has music for every occasion, sacred or secular, highbrow or light. It performs well-known pieces, choral works and specially-commissioned works in both English and Welsh. The choir also includes first-class soloists, duets, quartets, non-musical items and composers... and choristers are well-known for raising the roof over a pint or two at impromptu post-concert sessions.
Mair Roberts: Musical Director and conductor Mair's career as a professional soprano continues. She has appeared on many of the world's best-known concert platforms and is currently in high demand as an adjudicator at eisteddfodau and music festivals. Siwan
Rhys: Accompanist
Siwan is a third year student in piano at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Although only to attain the age of 21 in December 2007 whilst on tour with the choir in Hong Kong, her standard of performance and depth of experience belie her years. At the Royal College she has already won The Year Prize 2006, The John Thomas (Merthyr Tydfil) Prize and The Eric Hodges Memorial Prize. Her role with the choir is but one of a number of outlets for her talent. Siwan is actively involved in chamber music; her piano trio having given concerts including Wiltshire Rural Music School at Longleat House for the Marquis of Bath. Belfast concert pictures - now available! Images of the choir in Belfast can be seen here. COME SING WITH US Join Cantorion Creigiau for fun, friendship and adventure!
